SonaVu+ ATEX

New from SDT: SonaVu+ ATEX

SDT Ultrasound Solutions has launched the SonaVu+ ATEX — a specialized version of its flagship acoustic camera, certified for use in hazardous areas. Oil & gas, chemical and mining companies can now perform ultrasonic diagnostics on equipment even in zones where standard instruments are prohibited.

The problem: equipment with no monitoring in hazardous zones

At many industrial sites, critical equipment sits in areas where flammable gases, vapours or combustible dust may be present. Without ATEX certification, diagnostic instruments simply can't be used there. The result: gas leaks go undetected, partial discharge in electrical equipment goes unmonitored, and fugitive emissions aren't tracked.

SonaVu+ ATEX solves this problem by delivering the full functionality of an acoustic camera in a design rated safe for hazardous areas.

ATEX certification

What the SonaVu+ ATEX can do

112 MEMS sensors with unmatched sensitivity

An array of 112 digital MEMS microphones delivers a minimal leak detection threshold of 0.02 bar at flow rates from 38 ml/min, measured from 1 metre away. Detection range is up to 200 metres. That means a single operator can survey a large facility in one walkthrough.

Built-in display with PRPD analysis

All data is visible right on the instrument: an acoustic source heat map, spectral analysis, and PRPD (Phase-Resolved Partial Discharge) diagrams for diagnosing electrical equipment. No external tablet or laptop required.

Multi-point detection

SonaVu+ ATEX captures multiple sound sources simultaneously in a single frame. This speeds up inspection of complex assemblies with several potential defect locations.

Field inspection

Where it's used

Oil & gas

Safe localization of gas leaks, fugitive emissions and partial discharge at refineries, pipelines and offshore platforms — without stopping production.

Chemical and petrochemical

Monitoring hazardous zones for leaks and electrical defects in environments where safety and regulatory compliance are critical.

Power generation

Detecting partial discharge in switchgear and substations from a safe distance — in line with NFPA 70B requirements.

Mining

Operating in harsh conditions, where an explosive atmosphere and continuous production place special demands on diagnostic tools.

SonaVu InSights™ — reporting without the busywork

All survey results are automatically uploaded to the browser-based SonaVu InSights™ application: photo and video documentation, GPS tagging, leak cost estimation, and automatic report generation. This turns raw data into concrete action items for the maintenance team.
