Typical tasks

  • Benzene monitoring at pump houses and loading racks
  • Reformers and aromatics units
  • Petroleum product tank farms
  • Perimeter of refineries and chemical plants
  • Workplace air monitoring in process buildings

Overview

The Titan 2 is a fixed benzene monitor from the British company Ion Science. Installed in a hazardous area, it measures benzene specifically, not total hydrocarbons, once a minute around the clock. This matters at refineries and petrochemical plants, where benzene is mixed with other vapours and its exposure limits are very low.

Ion Science Titan 2

How it works

  • MiniPID T2 sensor with a 10.0 eV lamp and Ion Science's proprietary separation method excludes other gases.
  • Sampling by pump at 100 ml/min or more through a PTFE line up to 10 m long, so the monitor can sit in a convenient spot while sampling where needed.
  • Range from 20 ppb to 20 ppm with 10 ppb resolution.
  • Accuracy ±50 ppb or ±10 %, and ±10 ppb for readings up to 0.1 ppm.

Integration

Interface Purpose
Isolated 4–20 mA analogue signal to PLC or DCS
RS485 Modbus ASCII/RTU digital link to the control system
2 relays, 24 V DC 1.25 A alarm and fault
Micro USB configuration and data download
At least 2 GB memory six months or more of history
