Industry solutions, landing pages and articles on Ion Science Tiger — handheld VOC detector (discontinued)
Typical tasks
- VOC monitoring in industrial facilities (legacy instrument fleets)
- Soil and site contamination surveys
- Confined space entry and emergency response
Overview
Ion Science Tiger was the first-generation instrument of the Tiger family, launched in 2010 (sold as PhoCheck Tiger in some regions, including the US). In November 2022 Ion Science officially discontinued the Tiger, Tiger Select and Tiger LT of that generation and replaced them with the Tiger XT range, featuring a tougher enclosure, a protected USB port and an updated display. This page documents Tiger as a legacy model: if your fleet still includes a Tiger unit, the current replacement is Ion Science Tiger XT.
Key features (for reference)
- PID sensor resistant to humidity and contamination (predecessor of Fence Electrode Technology)
- T90 response under 2 seconds (10.6 eV lamp)
- Measurement range from 1 ppb to 20,000 ppm
- ATEX/IECEx, UL, CSA certified
- Up to 24-hour battery life, logging up to 120,000 points
Applications (historical)
- VOC monitoring in industrial facilities
- Soil and site contamination surveys
- Confined space entry and emergency response

Discontinued — what to offer instead
Ion Science officially discontinued the Tiger (including the PhoCheck Tiger) in 2022. The direct replacement is the Ion Science Tiger XT: the same PID measurement principle and comparable range, now with patented Fence Electrode Technology, a reinforced enclosure and an impact-protected display. KEG TRK supplies the current Ion Science lineup in Kazakhstan and can help select the right replacement for a discontinued Tiger unit.
