SonaVu or Crysound: Which Acoustic Camera to Choose in 2026
A comparison of the SDT SonaVu+ and Crysound CRY2600 acoustic cameras: detection range, number of sensors, PRPD partial-discharge analysis and use cases. Which camera fits leak detection and electrical inspection.

Why you need an acoustic camera
An acoustic camera shows what you usually cannot see: the source of ultrasound is overlaid on the video feed, and the operator immediately sees where a compressed-air leak or an electrical discharge comes from. No need to move a contact sensor across every fitting — just point the camera at the area and read the "heat map" of sound.
Two main applications:
- Leak detection of compressed air and process gases — direct savings on the compressor system.
- Partial discharge detection in high-voltage equipment — corona and surface discharges on insulators, in switchgear, on power lines — before the defect leads to a breakdown.
KEG TRK supplies two acoustic-camera lines through the SDT Ultrasound Solutions network: the flagship SDT SonaVu+ and the more affordable Crysound CRY2600. Let us look at how they differ.
SDT SonaVu+ — the flagship
SonaVu+ is SDT's own development and our primary choice for most tasks.
- 112 high-sensitivity MEMS sensors — precise source localisation.
- Detection range up to 200 metres — best in class. You can inspect high-mounted and hard-to-reach equipment from the ground.
- Built-in PRPD analysis of partial discharges right in the device.
- SDT ecosystem: integration with the UAS3 software, the "8 pillars" methodology, training and service in Russian.
- The SonaVu+ ATEX version — for explosive zones in oil & gas and chemicals.
The long range and SDT support make SonaVu+ the optimal choice when site coverage and a unified ultrasound program matter.
Crysound CRY2600 — the affordable alternative
Crysound is also supplied through SDT, so it is not a "grey" brand but part of the line. The CRY2600 is a practical choice when the budget is limited or the task is narrow.
- 128 MEMS sensors — even more than the SonaVu+.
- Range up to 120 metres — enough for most workshops and substations.
- PRPD maps of partial discharges with phase analysis.
- Focusing function — suppression of reflections and background noise.
- Variants: CRY2620 (leaks), CRY2623 (leaks + discharges), CRY2624 ATEX (explosive zones).
Comparison
| Parameter | SDT SonaVu+ | Crysound CRY2600 |
|---|---|---|
| Sensors | 112 MEMS | 128 MEMS |
| Range | up to 200 m | up to 120 m |
| Partial discharge (PRPD) | yes | yes |
| ATEX version | yes (SonaVu+ ATEX) | yes (CRY2624 ATEX) |
| Ecosystem and software | UAS3, SDT methodology | basic software |
| Positioning | flagship | affordable alternative |
How to choose
- Large sites, high-mounted equipment, a unified diagnostics program → SonaVu+ (200 m range and the SDT ecosystem).
- Limited budget or one specific task (leak detection / partial discharge at a substation) → Crysound CRY2600.
- Explosive zones → SonaVu+ ATEX or CRY2624 ATEX depending on budget.
For most industrial programs we recommend SonaVu+ — thanks to its range and integration with the rest of the SDT instruments. Crysound is chosen when a task needs to be covered with a smaller investment.
