- Electrical inspection
- Predictive maintenance
Overview
The SDT170 was a multifunctional ultrasound detector from a previous SDT Ultrasound Solutions generation, known on the market as "the little blue wonder." It shipped in several versions, from the basic S tier up to the top-level MD (Multifunctional DataManager) with data recording, storage and PC transfer capability.
This model has been discontinued. The current replacement in the SDT lineup is SDT270, a digital detector with memory, an SD card slot and FFT spectral analysis that inherited and extended SDT170's functionality.
Key features
A single multifunctional platform
- Shared housing — one instrument adapted to different tiers (S, S+, M, M+, MD) through a firmware update
- Automatic sensor recognition — connecting an external sensor switched the unit to the right parameter and measurement mode
- Upgradeability — S/S+/M/M+ versions could be upgraded to a higher tier (except MD, the top tier)
Measurement
- Built-in ultrasound sensor — airborne ultrasound reception without an external module
- External sensors — both ultrasonic and non-ultrasonic (temperature, rotation speed, flow and other parameters)
- LCD display — bar graph and digital readout, protected by borosilicate glass
Data (MD version)
- Memory — measurement recording
- Routes — route-based inspection rounds
- PC transfer — via RS232, using the Mplus / DataManager software

Why the model was discontinued
SDT has steadily evolved its detector lineup: the SDT170 laid the groundwork for the current generation of instruments — SDT200/SDT270/SDT340 — with a more convenient digital architecture, SD cards, USB connectivity and UAS3 software compatibility. The direct functional equivalent of the SDT170 MD today is SDT270, a detector with memory, FFT spectral analysis and trend analysis.
What to choose instead of SDT170
- SDT270 — the direct replacement for the SDT170 MD version: memory, spectral analysis, trends, UAS3 compatibility
- SDT200 — the replacement for basic SDT170 S/S+ versions for simple listening and leak-detection tasks
- UAS3 — modern data-analysis software replacing the legacy Mplus / DataManager tools
Support for this discontinued model
- Repair and calibration of previously purchased SDT170 units remains available through SDT's authorized service centres
- For new purchases and fleet expansion, migrating to SDT270 or SDT200 is recommended
