- Audit and hand-off of results to a surveyor, superintendent or insurer
Overview
SDT Master is the market name for the flagship Sherlog kit "MASTER", SDT Ultrasound Solutions' top-tier set for ultrasonic tightness testing of ship hatch covers. At its core is the SDT270 receiver — described by the manufacturer at launch as the "ultimate performance receiver" in the Sherlog range — paired with the SDT 8 MS multi-transmitter, an external flexible sensor and an out-of-tolerance indicator.
This kit has been discontinued. A dedicated Sherlog kit MASTER page is no longer part of SDT Ultrasound Solutions' current catalogue: the manufacturer moved hatch tightness testing onto the combination of a general-purpose SDT270 or SDT340 detector, a HATCHecker sensor, and reports generated in SHERLOGReporter — the same source-receiver principle and the same reporting logic, on a current hardware platform.
Key features
A top-tier receiver
- SDT270 — at launch, the senior receiver in the Sherlog range, built on years of operator experience and feedback with earlier versions
- SDT 8 MS transmitter — the same multi-transmitter used in the SDT Mate kit, generating a reference ultrasound signal inside the hold
- Flexible sensor with an indicator — a red/green light automatically flags a reading over 10% OHV (over hatch value) without requiring the operator to interpret it
Testing logic on the SDT270 receiver
- Functional test log — records a working-order check of the kit before starting the round
- Hatch panel count selection — matched to the actual geometry of the vessel under inspection
- On-screen navigation — positioning and logging of detected leak areas directly on the receiver's display
- Additional openings — separate tracking for loading ports, ventilators and access hatches
- Survey data storage — operator, equipment, certificate, port and ship information, for inclusion in the final report
Reporting
- Instant report — a detailed, tamperproof report generated immediately after the test is complete
- MS-Word format — a ready-to-use document for a surveyor, consultant or superintendent with no extra formatting
- USB — PC data transfer via the proprietary DataDump software

Why the kit was discontinued
SDT consistently moved hatch tightness testing away from dedicated branded kits (Sherlog kit CADET, MATE, MASTER) toward a modular setup: a general-purpose SDT270 or SDT340 detector, to which a dedicated HATCHecker sensor connects, while the MASTER kit's extended reporting logic — on-screen navigation, panel and opening tracking, instant MS-Word reports — was inherited by SHERLOGReporter.
What to choose instead of SDT Master
- HATCHecker — a dedicated hatch tightness sensor built on a current detector, the direct functional successor
- SDT270 / SDT340 — current detectors in place of the SDT270 receiver that shipped in the MASTER kit (the same SDT270 model is now sold in a further-developed revision)
- SHERLOGReporter — software with the same instant, detailed hatch-test reporting logic as the MASTER kit
Support for this discontinued kit
- Repair and calibration of previously purchased Sherlog kit MASTER units remains available through SDT's authorized service centres
- For new purchases and to continue a survey programme, migrating to the SDT270/SDT340 + HATCHecker + SHERLOGReporter combination is recommended
