Conveyor Roller Lubrication: Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Why belt-conveyor rollers fail from lubrication errors, why greasing “on the run” is risky, and how to control idler and pulley bearings on mining and coal sites.
On mining and coal conveyors, roller lubrication is daily reality: thousands of idlers, dust, moisture, impact. Mistakes cost belts, fires from stuck rollers, and line downtime.
Split the assets
- Carry/return idlers — mass fleet; nipples or lifetime-sealed.
- Drive and take-up pulleys — critical, high load.
- Drive motor/gearbox — separate map (motor greasing).
Common mistakes
Dirty nipples while greasing “on the run”; same calendar for all; closed drain + extra pumps; ignoring stuck rollers; treating pulleys like idlers. Lifetime-sealed rollers must not be force-greased.
